On June 13, global pop icon Rihanna officially launched Fenty Hair, a brand that takes its name from her full name, Robyn Rihanna Fenty. Rihanna already has made success with the Fenty Beauty brand, and her popularity in makeup, skincare, and fragrances has solidified her iconic status in the beauty market. With Rihanna’s continuous endeavor with so many different hairstyles, it’s surprising that she hasn’t released a haircare product earlier, so most believe this is a natural progression. On her Instagram, Rihanna announced the launch of Fenty Hair, calling it a “new family,” signaling that her Fenty Beauty has become a full-fledged brand.

At the launch event in Los Angeles, Rihanna stated that the preparation was a lot harder than she thought it would be. She said she thought it would not be enough unless it is better than any hair care brands she had used in her life, adding that she spent more than four years developing the products and building the brand.

The Fenty Hair product lineup focuses on strengthening and smoothing hair while caring for the scalp. The core lineup available at launch was developed by Fenty’s in-house stylists and chemists and includes nine haircare and styling products for all hair types and textures. All products contain patented Replenicore-5 designed to restore hair, and the five main ingredients in Replenicore-5 are Barbados gooseberry (for hydration), amino acids (protein), green tea extract (powerful antioxidant), upcycled jackfruit extract (rich in nutrients and vitamins), and hydrolyzed vegetable protein (to prevent protein overload). Fenty Beauty products are known for their attractive smell, and Fenty Hair seems no exception. Other feedback includes that the formula is not heavy, has good holding power, and is reasonably priced.

Recently, Rihanna was photographed wearing a T-shirt that read “I am retired.” Rihanna’s music fans, who have been waiting for her return ever since she released her last album in 2016 are accepting her business endeavors with sadness. Rihanna’s first business venture was a successful collaboration with athletic brand PUMA in 2014. Since then, she has collaborated with several brands to great success and has established herself as an entrepreneur by launching her own lingerie brand, Savage x Fenty, and beauty brand, Fenty Beauty. In 2019, she launched Fenty, a ready-to-wear fashion brand with the Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) group, which gained attention in the fashion world but was forced to shut down in less than two years due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and a failure in targeting. In response, LVMH announced that it would focus more on Rihanna’s lingerie and beauty brands. If Fenty Hair makes another success, it is expected to give her business career a major boost. With iconic black female artists of the era also having haircare lines named after them, it will be interesting to see what Rihanna’s brand will bring to the haircare market.
