International Beauty Show: IBS2023

International Beauty Show: IBS2023

IBS New York is one of the largest beauty shows in the United States, and it is held along with the International Esthetics, Cosmetics, and Spa Conference (IECSC) at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. The event, which took place from March 5th to 7th, 2023, seems to have returned to pre-pandemic levels compared to last year’s show, which was held on a smaller scale with most of the space blocked off.

It is an annual beauty trade show held in New York City, featuring various hair, beauty, and skincare brands showcasing their latest products and innovations. It is a professional event that only industry professionals, including beauticians, estheticians, nail technicians, and makeup artists, can attend to form a network of industry workers and offer education sessions and workshops.

The booths at the event were crowded with no empty spaces, and attendees had to line up to see products on the first day. Unlike previous shows, there were few samples at this year’s event as it was mainly a sales show. The number of participating major companies and waiting lines has also decreased compared to the past. The overall atmosphere of the beauty show was calm and humble compared to previous years, with fewer flashy booth setups and loud music.

Farouk [CHI] was the star of the show, taking up a prominent spot at the entrance and drawing visitors’ attention to their hair care line, which includes shampoo, conditioner, hair color, oil, and bleach. This year, Farouk [CHI] showcased a custom color machine that allows salons to produce custom colors on the spot. With a monthly lease cost of $100, salons can provide their customers with precise colors without the need for inventory of various hair dyes.

Olaplex, a popular hair care brand known for its ability to protect hair during bleaching and coloring processes, was one of the most sought-after brands at the show. The brand’s booth was always crowded with people waiting to get their hands on Olaplex’s products.

Halo Hair Couture, another popular booth at the show, attracted visitors with its glamorous displays of hair extensions and styling tools. The brand provided demonstrations of their products, engaging with visitors, and showing off their latest offerings.

Pure O, a familiar brand to those who know about Neat Braid products, also had a prominent presence at the show. Visitors could test the products and receive styling advice at the styling chairs set up around the booth, while a DJ provided entertainment.

In addition to well-known brands, the IBS also featured various vendors selling hair and beauty products, including scissors, hair care products, and accessories. Some of these vendors were from overseas, particularly from India and China, taking advantage of the opportunity to enter the U.S. market, which has seen a decline in sales due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
